Colombia: Cartagena

Travel: And the insane boat rides haven't ended yet! We had one more 3 hour boat ride to reach Turbo.  We were warned to not sit up front because of the bumpiness but the 5 of us traveling couldn't get it together and ended up being the last on the boat and inevitably up front. Although the trip was long and bumpy, it did have some very memorable parts.

We took a detour through a large river and stopped at a shanty town only accessible by boat. The boat driver wanted to buy some fish. So he stopped to select and cut up two 2 ft long fishes while we sat around taking in the the town and the townspeople taking in us. Many of the kids didn't wear clothes, once again people pooped straight in the river and bathed only meters away. I wish I had a photo of this place but there was no way I was whipping out my camera to take photos of people who may have never even seen white people before.
We finally got to Turbo and got into a bus for an 11 hour bus ride. We spent the ride sleeping, pulling over to eat street food, and popping bottles of Champagne for Molly's Birthday. We got into Cartagena just before midnight and quickly fell asleep.

Street Vendors
Cartagena is a very beautiful city. Tons of colors, old colonial buildings, museums, and churches. We passed the time walking the streets, resting from our long boat journey, cooking meals, and salsa dancing in the street from music coming from a small VW.
